Preheat oven to 325F. Grease an 8-inch square cake pan. Sift together flour, cocoa, salt, and sugar. Then stir in shortening, eggs, water, and vanilla and beat until smooth. Add 1/2 cup chopped nuts if desired. Spread in pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. |
